Coalition Supports Strangulation Legislation in Maryland

The Maryland Health Care Coalition Against Domestic Violence strongly supports a current bill in the Maryland Legislature that would classify intentional strangulation and suffocation as first degree assaults, rather than the second degree offenses that they are currently charged as.

Woman’s murder spurs Texas hospital to overhaul its domestic violence screening process

Victims of domestic violence can be identified in the health care setting and linked with resources to improve their safety – one of many reasons to screen for IPV.  This article details how a Texas hospital improved its screening and response protocols after learning of a recent patient’s death in a domestic incident.

MARYLAND HEALTH CARE COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS COMMENDED FOR ITS WORK BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF BALTIMORE

In October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Coalition was presented with a proclamation signed by Baltimore’s Mayor Jack Young, commending the group for “serving as a leader in building a collaborative community response across health care providers and allied professionals seeking to address IPV-related issues.”
