On September 5th, the Maryland Health Care Coalition Against Domestic Violence hosted a highly-anticipated seminar at MedChi, the Maryland State Medical Society. Michele Decker, ScD, MPH and Holly Wilcox, PhD of the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health presented current research and prevention practices to a group of 60 health care providers and allied professionals. We discussed how suicidality affects victims, how abusers use threats of suicide as a control tactic and the implications of suicides and murder suicides on the patients and clients we assist. Attendees took away valuable tools and strategies to recognize potential danger and intervene appropriately to save and improve lives.
