Practicing Self-Care

Practicing Self-Care

Everyday things that help your body and mind feel safer and stronger.

Self-care after trauma is all about building small habits that can make a big difference. These simple, supportive practices can help you feel more grounded, steady, and in control over time.

Basic Self‑Care Habits

  • Eat regularly and well: Choose nourishing foods to help your energy and mood stay steadier.

  • Move in ways you enjoy: Try walking, stretching, dancing, etc. Even gentle movement can lower stress and help you connect with your body.

  • Sleep enough: Go to bed and wake up at similar times; calm routines can make sleep easier.

Other Helpful Practices

  • Stay present: Simple breathing, mindfulness, or short moments of quiet can reduce anxiety.

  • Talk to people you trust: Connecting with friends, family, or support groups helps you feel less alone.

  • Be gentle with yourself: Healing takes time — treat yourself with kindness and patience.

  • Set healthy boundaries: Say “no” to things that stress you and protect your peace.

Self‑care isn’t perfect or fancy — it’s about choosing real, doable actions that help you feel steadier and more in control as you heal. Take a look at more tips and strategies, here.
